Hall
Bathroom Remodel
Along
with an outdated look, the bathroom had suffered water damage
over the years and the fixtures showed signs of wear. The homeowners
wanted to update their bathroom and preferred white fixtures
and tile. Color was to be brought into the room with the walls,
crown moulding painted an accent color. The wall color was chosen
from glass tiles that were to be used within the tub surround
area. Trying to stay within a planned budget, the homeowners
picked out middle of the road fixtures and tiles from a local
home improvement center. Vanity and tub faucets were higher
end Kohler products.
The
bathroom was gutted leaving only some sheetrock. The subfloor
was reinforced using Durarock cement board and provided a good
surface for the ceramic tile flooring. In looking over previous
work completed by us, the customer wanted a recessed storage
area within the tub surround. Because of the shallow wall space,
the existing 2x4 studs were used and provided a storage area
of about 4 inches deep. A Plexiglas shelf was installed within
the surround.
A
36" vanity was installed with a stone finish top and a
high rise faucet with white handles. The medicine cabinet was
removed and the homeowner opted for a mirror that matched the
vanity's fluted moulding design. For toiletries, a matching
storage closet was installed over the toilet.
An
americast tub was chosen, replacing the same size tub. White
glacier tile was used for the tub surround with aqua glass diamond
tiles installed randomly as accents. The recessed storage was
covered with glacier white tile, with two shelves. The size
of the recessed shelving was sized to fit the largest of shampoo
and conditioning bottles. The flooring was done in a white marbleized
ceramic tile to add some variation to the room.
A
few towels and pictures and the bathroom was complete, providing
the family with a beautiful new bathroom.
